What Is Vitamin C

Vitamin C, which also goes by the name ascorbic acid is a water-soluble vitamin that we must get through our diet because unlike most other mammals (excepting guinea pigs and primates) we lack the ability to manufacture it in our bodies. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant (reducing agent) which is an extremely useful property in the prevention of degenerative diseases. The commercial form of vitamin C is usually a mixture of ascorbic acid and sodium ascorbate or some other ascorbate. As ascorbic acid is readily oxidized it acts as a powerful anti-oxidant within the body.
